NOTEWORTHY GAMES OF E3 2014

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, E3 for short, is the videogame industry's most elaborate annual event. It is usually here where the Big Three (Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo this generation) showcase new hardware and/or software releases for the upcoming months. This year's E3 happened from June 10 to 12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Being an avid gamer, it would be a dream come true for me to get to attend the expo. Anyway, here are my personal picks for the noteworthy games from this year:

NO MAN'S SKY (PS4)

For me the most visually impressive game at E3 this year, No Man's Sky is a science fiction exploration game with a procedurally generated open universe where you get to explore an infinite number of planets, with its diverse flora and fauna, as well as travel through space.

BELOW (XBOX One, Xbox 360 & PC)

This Metroid-esque game (!!) has a visual style that evokes the works of Studio Ghibli. And just watch the trailer for the game. I might or might not have gotten a little emotional by the end of it.

ZELDA (WII U)

Just look at that screenshot. Nintendo promises that THIS is how the finished game would look like when it's released. They also promise an open world, with flexible ways to approach the dungeons in the game. ZELDA + SKYRIM = TAKE MY MONEY.

AMIIBO (WII U & 3DS)

Ok technically these aren't videogames, but Nintendo is entering the "toys to life" category in a big way. What sets these apart from Skylanders and Disney Infinity is that Nintendo promises Amiibo support in a whole slew of games, including my favorite game of the year so far, Mario Kart 8. Maybe I'm just a sucker for toys, which is made apparent by the embarassingly sizeable toys I've amassed from Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

OTHER NOTEWORTHY GAMES

MARIO MAKER (WII U)

Nintendo's answer to Sony's LittleBigPlanet, which I enjoyed immensely although had somewhat klunky controls. But DIY Mario levels? Sold. I really hope this game will support 4-Player coop.

THE ORDER 1886 (PS4)

Set in Victorian era London with anachronistic technology, feautring supernatural creatures. Need I say more?

CAPTAIN TOAD: TREASURE TRACKER (WII U)

The hero from those adorable minigames from Super Mario 3D World gets his own full game.

MORTAL KOMBAT X (XBOX One, PS4 & PC)
If you just had lunch, you might wanna skip this one.

DANCE CENTRAL SPOTLIGHT (XBOX One)

Dance Central is back! Although I'm kind of worried because from the trailer, it seems like they're just recycling moves from the previous games.

DESTINY (PS4, PS3, XBOX One, XBOX 360)
I haven't seen world building in a videogame at this scale in a long while.
